Drivers get first work with Gen 6 car at the Monster Mile

DOVER, Del. – Dover International Speedway hosted its first team testing session of the year on May 14, with six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams and five NASCAR Nationwide Series teams turning laps at the Monster Mile today in preparation for the May 31-June 2, 2013 tripleheader weekend.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams testing included Tony Stewart, Danica Patrick and Ryan Newman, all of Stewart-Haas Racing; Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing; and Germain Racing’s Casey Mears. NASCAR Nationwide Series teams on track included Austin and Ty Dillon, plus Brian Scott, all of Richard Childress Racing; and Sam Hornish Jr. and Ryan Blaney, both of Penske Racing.

The test was the first opportunity for these drivers to try out the all-new Generation 6 car at Dover. The results so far, McMurray said, have been fast, as expected.

“Everywhere we’ve been with this car it’s been quite a bit faster than the car that we had last year,” he said. “Normally at a test you can run faster than you can at the race. The track is clean, there’s not a lot of rubber on it, so yeah, our speeds today have been quite a bit quicker than what we ran in race trip last year. It’s got a lot of grip and the track is really fast.”

Montoya added that being able to turn a few laps in the Gen 6 at Dover should help when he returns in a few weeks to race in the June 2, 2013 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

“You look at the big things that you can do for race weekend,” he said of testing. “When you come here for race weekend, you pretty much know what you’re going to run. Usually, the window you have to work with is very small, unless you have testing. Then you have data and telemetry in the cars, and a lot more stuff to work with in testing.”

All the drivers on site will return for a second day of testing on May 15, with Blaney and Hornish Jr. sticking around for an extra day on May 16.

NASCAR returns to Dover International Speedway May 31-June 2, 2013 for the June 2 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, the June 1 “5-hour ENERGY 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race and the May 31 “Lucas Oil 200” NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

For tickets or more information, call 800-441-RACE or click here.
DOVER, Del. – Race fans will be treated to a very special pre-race event, as country music group Gloriana will play a free concert for fans in Victory Plaza the morning of the June 2 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The award-winning trio will also perform the National Anthem for the day’s race.

Comprised of brothers Tom and Mike Gossin, along with Rachel Reinert, Gloriana broke onto the scene in 2009 with its self-titled album that featured the hit single “Wild at Heart.” The debut release earned the group the American Music Award for Breakthrough Artist in 2009 and the coveted Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Vocal Group in 2010.

The album’s first single, “(Kissed You) Good Night,” was the most played song by a group on country radio in 2012. Gloriana’s latest single, “Can’t Shake You,” is quickly climbing the radio charts, and the trio recently kicked off a year-long, nationwide tour.

Bowyer, Sadler defeat Harvick, Buescher and Coulter in walk-off fashion

HARRISBURG, Pa. – A host of NASCAR drivers and personalities suited up for an out-of-the ordinary competition Wednesday, April 24, as they took part in the Second Annual Celebrity Softball Game between Dover International Speedway and Pocono Raceway at the home of the Harrisburg (Pa.) Senators.

Your 2013 Celebrity Softball Game Champions – Team Dover!

Clint Bowyer, with support from Elliott Sadler, captained Team Dover to a dramatic 9-8 walk-off win over Team Pocono, which was led by Kevin Harvick, and also featured James Buescher and Joey Coulter. Additionally, two Miss Sprint Cups participated, playing against one another in this heated battle.

The game was part of NASCAR’s Victory Tour program to promote the May 31-June 2 race weekend at Dover, and the June 7-9 race weekend at Pocono.

Dover stormed out to an 8-2 lead on the strength of a monster two-run home run in the third inning by Sadler. Pocono began chipping away at that lead, though, capping off the comeback with a rally in the top of the eighth inning that included a grand slam homer to tie the game heading into the final half inning.

The Monster Mile, however, stormed right back with the first three batters in the bottom of the eighth reaching base on singles. With the bases loaded and no outs, Dover was able claim victory on the next at-bat as the team’s fourth straight single drove in the game-winning run from third base.

While Team Dover won the game, avenging last year’s loss to Team Pocono, Harvick said the fun of the day made those in attendance the real winners.

“It was a good show for the fans,” he said. “This is by far the best [Victory Tour] appearance I’ve ever done.”

Harvick and Bowyer were entertaining throughout the game, putting on a show for fans that included Bowyer kicking up dirt at an umpire and riling the crowd up with some Hulk Hogan-like gestures to his ear. Harvick noted, however, that Bowyer might have gotten a little too distracted.

“The guy didn’t show up for half the innings,” Harvick joked, as Bowyer left his second base position vacant for a few innings while interacting with fans.

Rosters were rounded out by members of the media, but the real star of the day had to be NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Sadler, who had two hits, one of which was a monster home run to center field.

Sadler, who admittedly plays softball about 120 days a year, showed up “prepared” as he described it. Bowyer, however, joked that his friend’s professional approach to a friendly softball game was a tad much.

“He was wearing baseball pants! That was just uncomfortable,” Bowyer said. “And he had a cup on!”

The fun didn’t end with the softball game, either, as Kevin Harvick made an encore appearance on the field later in the evening to entertain fans one more time with a stunt for charity.

Kevin Harvick and Miss Sprint Cup Kim Coon slide on the tarp during a rain delay in the Harrisburg Senators game. For the stunt, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet owner Mark Butler donated $5,000 to the Kevin Harvick Foundation.

When Harvick and Bowyer were meeting with the media following the game, the skies opened up and delayed the evening’s AA baseball game between the Harrisburg Senators and Reading Fightin’ Phils. As the drivers acknowledged the poor weather, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet owner Mark Butler, who is also part owner of the Senators, issued a challenge to Harvick.

If the driver agreed to run on the soaking wet tarp covering the infield, rounding the bases and sliding into each one, Butler would donate $5,000 to the Kevin Harvick Foundation. It didn’t take much to get Harvick out of his seat and down on the field, where he completed the stunt to earn the donation, pleasing the crowd one last time in the process. You can see the video of the slide below.

With that game now behind them, Bowyer, Harvick, Sadler, Coulter and Buescher will prepare for the race weekends at the Monster Mile and The Tricky Triangle, both very different challenges on back-to-back weekends.

There’s no way to compare the two very unique tracks, Bowyer said, so when drivers go from Dover to Pocono on consecutive weekends, the ability to readjust quickly makes a big difference in having a good finish.

“That’s what’s cool about our sport. You’ve got to adapt,” Bowyer said. “Going to Dover and Pocono two weekends in a row forces you to do that.”

NASCAR action returns to Dover International Speedway on May 31-June 2 with the June 2 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, the June 1 “5-hour ENERGY 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race and the May 31 “Lucas Oil 200” NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. For tickets or more information, call 800-441-RACE or visit click here.

The following weekend, NASCAR’s top touring series heads to Long Pond, Pa., for the June 7-9 race weekend, including the “Party in the Poconos 400 Presented by Walmart” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. For tickets and more information, call 800-722-3929 or visit PoconoRaceway.com.

Sunday morning offering packed with great benefits!

Dover International Speedway now offers ticket holders to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at the track the opportunity to experience a race morning at the Monster Mile in unique fashion with the Pre-Race Fan Pass.

In the past, space limitations and other logistical hurdles have prevented Dover from making pit passes available to the general public, having to reserve them for NASCAR-licensed competitors and officials, safety workers and employees, accredited members of the press and sponsors. This offer provides an extremely rare opportunity to experience something many Dover fans never have.

The Pre-Race Fan Pass includes:

Exclusive access to pit road before the Sunday NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, from 8 a.m. until approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of the race

Access to a dedicated area on the track in front of the pre-race stage that provides close-up views of driver introductions, special presentations, the “Star Spangled Banner” and more

A chance to visit Sunoco Victory Lane, where you can participate in a “Victory Lane Tireside Chat” with George Keller, Dover’s track historian

A professional photograph in Sunoco Victory Lane with the same Monster trophy that will be awarded to the race winner later that day (photos will be mailed to you after the event)

A souvenir program

A Dover International Speedway hat

The Pre-Race Fan Pass is available to customers that have a valid Sunday NASCAR Sprint Cup Series ticket for the same day. Passes are limited, and cost $189.

To take advantage of this exclusive, one-of-a-kind offer, call 800-441-RACE.

Get rewarded for getting your friends to the Monster Mile!

The all-new Refer-A-Friend program at Dover International Speedway is giving you the chance to earn $25, $50, $75 and even more on a Monster Fan Card for every friend you refer to buy NASCAR Sprint Cup Series tickets at the Monster Mile in 2013!

If you’re a Sunday ticketholder for either the June 2 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” or Sept. 29 “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, have your friends call the Dover International Speedway ticket office at 800-441-RACE, and tell them to give your ticket account number while they purchase their own Sunday tickets. It’s that simple!

And the best part? There is no limit on how many friends you can refer. Refer one friend, get $25…refer two, get $50! Get the idea? For each new account you refer, you’re going to get rewarded!

The Monster Fan Card can be used at any Dover International Speedway official merchandise trailer or concession stand, and can even be reloaded with funds throughout race weekend.

Again, just have your friends call 800-441-RACE and use your ticket account number when buying tickets — and get rewarded!

Fine Print
Must purchase a minimum of one (1) adult NASCAR Sprint Cup Series ticket. Not valid with previous purchases. Deadline to take advantage of the Refer-A-Friend offer is May 29 for the spring 2013 race weekend and Sept. 25 for the fall 2013 race weekend. The $25 reward is per account (not per ticket) purchased. Referring account holder must have at least one (1) Sunday race ticket. Referred friend must not have been a Dover account holder in the previous year. Cannot refer yourself.

Team Dover, Team Pocono to square off at home of Harrisburg (Pa.) Senators on April 24 in second annual contest featuring Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer

DOVER, Del. – NASCAR veteran Elliott Sadler, as well as NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers Joey Coulter, 2012 champion James Buescher and Todd Bodine, have been added to the growing lineup of players for the Second Annual Celebrity Softball Game between Dover International Speedway and Pocono Raceway. The game will be played on Wednesday, April 24 at the home of the Harrisburg Senators in Harrisburg, Pa.

Getty Images photo

Sadler and Bodine will join Clint Bowyer and the rest of Team Dover in an attempt to avenge a loss in last year’s game to Team Pocono, which will be captained by Kevin Harvick, and also feature Coulter and Buescher. Miss Sprint Cup will also participate in the game, and rosters will be rounded out by motorsports media, local media personalities and a few other special guests.

Access to the celebrity softball game is free with a ticket to that night’s baseball game. Tickets for the Senators game start at just $8, and all children ages 16 and younger that wear any NASCAR gear get a free Senators Hat and free passes to the Kids Play Area. For tickets, call 717-231-4444 or visit SenatorsBaseball.com.

Gates for the game will open at 3:30 p.m. with the game beginning at 4:30 p.m. Following the softball game, time permitting, Bowyer and Harvick will throw out the first pitch for that evening’s 7:05 p.m. baseball game between the Harrisburg Senators and the visiting Reading Fightin’ Phils. The teams are the AA affiliates of the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies, respectively.

Throughout both the softball and baseball games, both tracks will be promoting and giving away tickets to their NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races which take place on Sunday, June 2 at Dover and Sunday, June 9 at Pocono.

Additionally, fans are encouraged to bring their old and unusable mobile devices to the ballpark, where they will be recycled properly. Any fan who recycles their phones by dropping them off at the track’s display table inside Metro Bank Park, will be automatically entered to win an autographed Sprint helmet signed by Kevin Harvick after he won the 600-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Charlotte (N.C.) in 2011.

The tracks have also teamed up to offer an all-new ticket package that includes a ticket for each of the tracks’ spring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races — June 2 at Dover, June 9 at Pocono — as well as a hot dog, beverage and souvenir program for each race. The package costs $158 as the Monster Mile and The Tricky Triangle are only 158 miles apart.

A week later, NASCAR’s premier circuit visits Pocono Raceway for the June 7-9, 2013 “Party in the Poconos 400” race weekend, including the June 8 “Pocono 200” ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards race and the June 9 “Party in the Poconos 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
