Three-time Dover champion Kyle Busch, driving the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, will start from the front for Sunday's Wurth 400 NASCAR Cup Series race.
Qualifying was cancelled after a practice session as mist and fog covered portions of the Speedway. The field was set by NASCAR's rule book.
Brad Keselowski, driving the No. 6 Ford, was quickest in practice with a lap of 158.660 mph (22.690 seconds), with Kyle Larson second and William Byron third.
“We ran a really fast lap in practice in our Wyndham Ford Mustang," Keselowski said. "That’s always a good thing. Hopefully that translates to the race. We had good speed in the car, and I was driving it really hard. I like the challenge of coming here to Dover.
"It’s just really, really rough. It’s really demanding on both the car and driver, and you need to attack it before it attacks you.”
Busch, who won at Talladega last week, was only 29th fastest in practice (154.506 mph) which proved treacherous for some, as several drivers endured spins, including Busch's Richard Childress Racing teammate Austin Dillon, who brushed the wall and was forced to a backup car for Sunday's race.
“I’ll take it - starting up front, track position race, number one pit box - that’s super good to have here at Dover,’’ Busch said.
Christopher Bell will start second, followed by Ryan Blaney in third, Keselowski in fourth and Chris Buescher, the 2022 Dover pole winner, in fifth.
"Things just happen so fast, so it takes you a few laps to get back into the rhythm until your body and eyes get used to the speeds here," Blaney said. "It’s one of those places – Bristol on steroids. But, it’s a fun place. It’s neat the way it changes."
