Darrell Wallace Jr. had one pole in his career before Saturday, and it was at Dover International Speedway. He now has two, and they’re both at the Monster Mile.
Wallace Jr. ran a final-round lap of 153.991 MPH to take the Coors Light Pole for the 34th Annual “Buckle Up 200” presented by Click It or Ticket NASCAR XFINITY Series race, which will run later Saturday afternoon. He jumped to the top spot after running third-fastest in the second qualifying round and second quickest in the first round.
Wallace Jr. is coming off a pair of strong finishes in the NASACAR XFINITY Series – first a sixth-place finish at Iowa, and then a career-best fifth-place finish last week at Charlotte. He’s hoping the progression continues.
“We’ve got some huge momentum from those two races,” Wallace Jr. said. “We’re feeling good about this one. We’ve just got to go make the most out of it.”
The 21-year-old rookie outdistanced Chris Buescher, who will start second. Matt Kenseth, Daniel Suarez and Brian Scott complete the top five, while Erik Jones, Kasey Kahne, Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney and Regan Smith round out the top 10.
