The Delaware Office of Highway Safety will once again be the primary sponsor for a Dover International Speedway event in 2016 with the “Drive Sober 200” NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Saturday, Oct. 1, track officials announced today.
This will be the third consecutive year the Office of Highway Safety has served as an entitlement sponsor for a NASCAR XFINITY Series race at the Monster Mile. Previous NASCAR XFINITY Series sponsorships have included the “Buckle Up 200” presented by Click it or Ticket races on May 30, 2015 and May 31, 2014.
“We are pleased to continue the terrific relationship we have with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety,” said Michael Tatoian, Dover International Speedway’s president and CEO. “This agency has important messages to deliver – ones that affect all of our fans and employees – and we’re happy to partner with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety to help them promote awareness of their critical initiatives.”
“The Office of Highway Safety is excited to once again partner with the Dover International Speedway to spread our highway safety message to all NASCAR fans during the race weekends in Dover,” said Jana Simpler, director of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. “The Drive Sober 200 on October 1 will be an excellent opportunity to interact with NASCAR fans, encourage safe driving behaviors, and build upon the successes we’ve seen with our longstanding partnership with Dover International Speedway.”
Dover International Speedway will welcome two NASCAR tripleheader weekends in 2016 on May 13-15 and Sept. 30-Oct. 2. In the spring, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns on Sunday, May 15, preceded by the NASCAR XFINITY Series on Saturday, May 14 and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Friday, May 13.
In addition to the “Drive Sober 200” NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Oct. 1, the “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Oct. 2 will feature the first four eliminations of the 16-driver Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship playoff field. It will be the third straight year that the Monster Mile will host the first elimination race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup playoff.
