Gordon out front in second “Citizen Soldier 400” practice


On first glance at the second practice results for Sunday’s “Citizen Soldier 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, one might think they were looking at an outdated listing.

However, there’s no need to check your eyes, as Jeff Gordon, filling in for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 Chevrolet, posted the fastest lap time in the rain-shortened session at 22.428 seconds (160.514 mph).

He was followed in the top five by Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne and Paul Menard. The drivers will return to the track for a final practice session at 1:30 p.m.

Green flag for the Sunday, Oct. 2 “Citizen Soldier 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is at 2 p.m., with Brad Keselowski starting on the pole. Tickets are available by calling 800-441-RACE or visiting DoverSpeedway.com.
