Fan activities at the track for May 30-June 1, 2014 race weekend

NASCAR returns to Dover International Speedway this spring with another tripleheader of action for the May 30-June 1, 2014 race weekend! With changes that have instituted group qualifying through all three series, and an all-new “win-and-in” Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup format, fans are sure to be in for some edge-of-your-seat action this weekend.

But the fun of race weekend doesn’t just happen on the track, as fans can find entertainment outside the oval all weekend long. With free fan areas like the FanZone and Monster FunZone, not to mention numerous autograph sessions, free concerts and more, you don’t want to miss a second of race weekend at Dover!

Frankie’s Café at the Monster Mile

Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will again present Frankie’s Café at the Monster Mile, a Tuscan-style café with the flavor and atmosphere of its Frankie’s Wine Bar and Italian Restaurant during race weekend. The café offers race fans a variety of menu options in an al fresco setting, and is located outside near the Monster Monument in Victory Plaza.

The FanZone is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 30; 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 31; and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.

NASCAR Pin Trading Zone

Trade your NASCAR pins in the FanZone throughout race weekend at the NASCAR Pin Trading Zone. There will be a ceremonial first pin trade on Friday, May 30 at 9:30 a.m. with Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition for NASCAR, and Mike Tatoian, executive vice president and COO of Dover Motorsports, Inc.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 28

Night Out with NASCAR, presented by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, at The Starboard, Dewey Beach, DE

Time: 5-7 p.m.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Reed Sorenson, NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Paulie Harraka and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Ben Kennedy will meet with fans, participate in a question-and-answer session and sign autographs at Night Out with NASCAR. The event will also feature prizes and giveaways, such as tickets and pit passes, and will be held at The Starboard, 2009 Coastal Highway, Dewey Beach, DE.

FREE NASCAR Camping World Truck Series autograph session

Time: 1:30-2:15 p.m.

The drivers of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will meet with fans for an autograph session prior to racing in the afternoon’s “Lucas Oil 200.” The autograph session is free and will be held in the FanZone, just outside Turn 4 of the track. Autographs are given on a first-come, first-served basis, so arrive early. Participating drivers include:

Some of the best racing fans will see all weekend at Dover comes on Friday during the spring weekend, as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes to the track for the “Lucas Oil 200.” See as some of these up-and-coming drivers tangle with some seasoned veterans on the high banks of the Monster Mile.

Open Track Session with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Jamie McMurray

Time: 8-9 a.m.

If you want to have the unique opportunity to walk the frontstretch of the Monster Mile, you’ll get a few chances this race weekend, beginning with the Saturday morning Open Track Session. Jamie McMurray, driver of the No. 1 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Reed Sorenson and NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Paulie Harraka, will participate in a question-and-answer session, hosted by Riki Rachtman, near the start/finish line as part of the event. Ticketholders for the May 31 NASCAR Nationwide Series race can enter at Gate 18, presenting their race ticket, to get on the track.

Bear Hollow Wood Carvers chainsaw carving demonstration in the FanZone

Time: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Bear Hollow Wood Carvers will hold a free chainsaw carving demonstration in Victory Plaza. The carvers will auction off some of their work from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will do so again Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon.

Monster FunZone

Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Located outside of Turn 4 near the Monster Monument, this popular, family friendly area provides free admission and loads of fun. Some attractions include racing simulators, face painting, prize drawings, moon bounces, show car displays, interactive games and rock climbing, just to name a few!

The NASCAR Nationwide Series is going through a bit of a youth movement this season, with drivers like Chase Elliott, Ty Dillon and Chris Buescher — all rookies — proving their worth and making a case for future NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rides. See these three, and the rest of the field that includes other Nationwide stars like Elliott Sadler, mixed with a few Cup regulars, for some exciting, fender-to-fender action at the Monster Mile.

Time: 3-4 p.m.

Track Walk, benefiting The NASCAR Foundation and Autism Speaks, including a FREE kick-off Q&A with Denny Hamlin

Time: Approximately 5:30 p.m.

Following the Saturday NASCAR Nationwide Series race, Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 FedEx/Autism Speaks Toyota, will kick off a Track Walk around the Monster Mile to benefit The NASCAR Foundation and Autism Speaks. ESPN NASCAR analyst Brad Daugherty will also join fans for the walk. The walk will start at the Monster Monument in Victory Plaza, and proceed inside the track to make one lap around. Registration is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 14 and younger. Fans can register in advance by clicking here, or on-site at The NASCAR Foundation display in the FanZone for an increased registration fee of $25.

Head on over to the AAA Victory Lane Display in the FanZone for the MWR Hour, featuring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer challenging his boss, Michael Waltrip, to a game of Pictionary from 9:30-9:45 a.m.; No. 15 crew members competing in Showdown Trivia from 9:50-10 a.m.; and No. 15 crew members Beef and Hootie playing Pictionary from 10:10-10:20 a.m.

FREE question-and-answer session with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on the Monster Monument

Time: 9:45 a.m.

Prior to taking to the track for the “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, reigning Sunoco Rookie of the Year Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will participate in a question-and-answer session on the Monster Monument in Victory Plaza. The event is free and open to the public.

Greg Biffle appearance at The Sprint Experience display in the FanZone

Time: 9:45 a.m.

FREE concert with knockout female vocalist Cassadee Pope

Time: 10 a.m.

Cassadee Pope, the knockout female vocalist that won season three of NBC’s hit show “The Voice,” will perform a free concert for fans in Victory Plaza the morning of the June 1 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Following the concert, Pope will head inside to kick off the race with her rendition of the National Anthem.

FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race

Time: 1 p.m.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to the Monster Mile on Sunday of race weekend, perhaps with much more on the line this spring than there ever has been. Changes to the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup format have created a “win-and-in” mentality in the sport, meaning a win at Dover could all but lock up a Chase spot. So expect to see the field of 43 going all out for one of those coveted playoff positions.
