Fan activities at the track for Sept. 28-30, 2012 race weekend

NASCAR will descend upon the one-mile, concrete oval at Dover International Speedway for another tripleheader weekend of exciting racing on Sept. 28-30, 2012! One of the most important things to know about race weekend at the Monster Mile, is that when you get to the track you’re in for more than just a race!

Race weekend is a party atmosphere with loads of entertainment at every turn, like driver autograph sessions, the always popular FanZone and Monster FunZone, and so much more. Check out the listings below to see what’s going on in Dover this race weekend, and make sure to keep checking back as we’ll update it as events and activities are announced leading up to race week.

All Weekend

Frankie’s Café at the Monster Mile

Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will again present Frankie’s Café at the Monster Mile, a Tuscan-style café with the flavor and atmosphere of its Frankie’s Wine Bar and Italian Restaurant during race weekend. The café will offer race fans a variety of new menu options in an al fresco setting, and is located outside near the Monster Monument in Victory Plaza, presented by AAA.

FanZone

Free interactive displays will be set up in the FanZone, featuring a number of partners, including: the Sprint Experience, AAA, Lucas Oil, 3M, the NASCAR Foundation, Camping World, GM, SPEED TV, Boost Mobile, OneMain Financial, 5-hour ENERGY, M&T Bank, Power Home Remodeling Group, the U.S. Army, New Holland, the U.S. Air Force, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety and more.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 27

Brad Keselowski to appear at Grotto Pizza in Milford, DE

Time: 7 p.m.

Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge for Penske Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, will visit the Grottos Pizza at 102 Silicato Way, Milford, at 7 p.m.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 28

NASCAR K&N Pro Series East FREE Autograph Session

Time: 1-2 p.m.

Before trading paint on the track in the afternoon’s race, the entire field of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race will participate in a FREE autograph session from 1 to 2 p.m. in the FanZone, located outside of Turn 4 of the Monster Mile. Because the autograph session is first come, first served, fans are encouraged to arrive early. Notable drivers participating are last year’s Dover winner Darrell Wallace, who will also be participating in the Saturday, Sept. 29 “OneMain Financial 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race; Chase Elliott, son of NASCAR legend Bill Elliott; series title contender Brett Moffitt; and many more!

NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race

Time: 4:45 p.m.

The best drivers in NASCAR’s top developmental series take to the track for 150 miles of bumper-to-bumper action, as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East field will try and tame the Monster Mile in the series’ second-to-last race of the season. With a tight battle atop the standings, every point counts, so expect to see these drivers taking any chance they have to gain an advantage.

“Dialed In with Claire B. Lang” LIVE from the Monster Mile

Time: 7-9 p.m.

One of NASCAR’s most popular radio personalities will be broadcasting her show from Dover on race weekend, as SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and the Monster Mile present “Dialed In with Claire B. Lang” LIVE from the Monster Mile from 7 to 9 p.m. With guests like Danica Patrick, Joey Logano, Richard Childress and Jack Roush set to stop by, the show will feature a live studio audience as it is broadcasted to the world live from the Rollins Center at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. Tickets are only $5, with proceeds going to the USO Delaware, and must be purchased in advance. The driver appearance schedule is as follows:

  • 7-7:20 p.m. — Danica Patrick
  • 7:20-7:45 p.m. — Richard Childress
  • 8-8:30 p.m. — Jack Roush
  • 8:30-8:50 p.m. — Joey Logano
NASCAR Trackside” on the SPEED stage

Time: 7-8 p.m.

Hosted in 2012 by Krista Voda with assistance from Kyle Petty, Rutledge Wood and Marianela Pereyra, “NASCAR Trackside” is SPEED’s at-track version of a variety talk show. You never know what’s coming next with “Trackside.” Whether it’s driver interviews, games, skits, spoofs, chats with drivers’ wives and children, or celebrities on-hand for the weekend, it’s always a party on “Trackside,” where showcasing driver personalities is priority one. The SPEED stage is set in the FanZone, located just outside Turn 4 of the track.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 29

OneMain Financial Open Track Session for NASCAR Nationwide Series ticket holders

Time: 10-11:30 a.m.

Fans will have the unique opportunity to walk the frontstretch of the Monster Mile the morning of the Sept. 29 “OneMain Financial 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race. In addition, Elliott Sadler, driver of the No. 2 OneMain Financial Chevrolet, as well as Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress, will participate in a FREE question-and-answer session for fans from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. during the event. Ticket holders for the “OneMain Financial 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race can enter for the open track session at Gate 18 by presenting their ticket, which will be rescanned on the way out so it permits entrance to the race later that day.

Live music from the band Smokin’ Gunnz on the Victory Plaza Stage

Time: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Monster FunZone

Time: 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Located outside of Turn 4 near the Monster Monument at Victory Plaza, presented by AAA, this popular, family-friendly section provides free admission and loads of fun. Some attractions include racing simulators, face painting, prize drawings, moon bounces, show car displays, interactive games, rock climbing and a trampoline jumping station, just to name a few!

“OneMain Financial 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race

Time: 3:30 p.m.

As the season winds down in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, the championship battle will be in full effect as Elliott Sadler, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Austin Dillon go toe-to-toe for the points lead in the “OneMain Financial 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regulars Kasey Kahne, Joey Logano and others will take on a series of up-and-coming drivers in a race that promises intense action from green to checkered flag.

FREE outdoor movie featuring “Days of Thunder” at the Giant Speedway Supermarket at the entrance of RV Lot 10

Time: 7 p.m.

The Giant Speedway Supermarket, located at the entrance to RV Lot 10, will present at FREE outdoor screening of the 1990 film “Days of Thunder,” starring Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Robert Duvall, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Event to benefit Delaware Food Bank, featuring a FREE Q&A with Jeff Gordon

Time: 8 a.m.-11 a.m.

Chase Card Services and the Food Bank of Delaware will be hosting a meal packing event to benefit older Americans in need in Delaware from 8 to 11 a.m. in the FanZone, with all volunteers getting the opportunity to be part of an exclusive question-and-answer session with Jeff Gordon. The first 300 fans to show up and help pack boxes of food for the Delaware Food Bank will get to be part of the Gordon Q&A, but anyone not in the first 300 won’t be going home empty handed. FREE Brian Dawkins Q&A on the Monster Monument, presented by AAA, in Victory Plaza

AAA Brand Ambassador and Philadelphia Eagles legend Brian Dawkins, who is serving as the Grand Marshall for the “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, will participate in a FREE question-and-answer session for fans the morning of the big race. Dawkins will head to Philadelphia after the race to have his No. 20 jersey retired at halftime of the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Eagles and New York Giants.

NASCAR RaceDay” live on the SPEED stage

Time: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The energetic and highly-popular program airs live from every race track on the circuit. John Roberts hosts alongside Kyle Petty, Kenny Wallace and Larry McReynolds, while Wendy Venturini, Rutledge Wood and Matt Clark report the latest from the garage and pit road. “NASCAR RaceDay” leaves no stone unturned, revving up for the day’s race with live driver interviews, features and even some entertaining, off-the-wall segments, such as “RV There Yet?” with Wood and Petty — a driver and fan favorite. Race fans and drivers count on “NASCAR RaceDay” to get them ready for the big race, bringing them the inside story and up-to-the-minute news in a lighthearted and fun manner.

FREE Jimmie Johnson Q&A on the Monster Monument, presented by AAA, in Victory Plaza

Time: 11:15 a.m.

As part of a growing tradition at the Monster Mile, the most recent Dover race winner will participate in a FREE question-and-answer session for fans on the Monster Monument, presented by AAA, in Victory Plaza. That honor goes to Jimmie Johnson this race weekend, as he found Sunoco Victory Lane in the June 3, 2012 “FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. That win was Johnson’s seventh at the Monster Mile, tying Richard Petty and Bobby Allison on the all-time Dover wins mark. Fans will get to hear from the driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet before he hits the track later that afternoon in a quest for his record-setting eighth Dover win.

FREE concert with country music band Lonestar in Victory Plaza

Time: 11:30 a.m.

Multi-platinum country music quartet Lonestar will give a FREE concert in Victory Plaza the morning of the Sept. 30 “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, prior to singing the National Anthem to kick off that day’s event. Best known for its 1999 hit single, “Amazed,” Lonestar has had 10 No. 1 country hit songs in its 20 year career and has amassed RIAA certified sales in excess of 10 million album units since 1995.

“AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race

Time: 2 p.m.

The third race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup comes to Dover as the 12 contending drivers compete with the rest of the field in a drive towards the championship in the Sept. 30 “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The Monster Mile has proven itself a turning point in the Chase in the past, and this year is setting up to be no different. Defending Dover winner Jimmie Johnson, always dominant in the First State, is the driver to beat, but the unpredictability of the Monster means anything could happen.
