Dover International Speedway employee leads supply drive for victims of eastern Tennessee wildfire

A Dover International Speedway employee spent a portion of her holiday season helping others in need as she collected supplies for the victims of the massive eastern Tennessee wildfire that claimed more than a dozen lives.

Items collected for eastern Tennessee wildfire victims included clothes, nonperishable food, toiletries, bedding and pet food.

Business Development Representative Karen Ptak organized a supply drive that gathered enough items to fill two trailers, two large vans and one pickup truck. When her son, Bobby Cutchin, informed her that his company, H&M Bay, would be making trips with tractor trailers to deliver supplies to eastern Tennessee out of its location in Federalsburg, Md., Ptak and her daughter Melinda began collecting goods.

“We have been there on vacation before and had a wonderful time,” Ptak said. “It is beautiful country and I just felt that if we got some family and friends together we could help.”

Items collected included clothes, nonperishable food, toiletries, bedding and pet food. Dover Downs Hotel & Casino also donated some surplus food, kitchen supplies and bathroom items.

“I enjoy helping people however I can, whenever I can,” Ptak said. “It was really heartwarming to see how much people are willing to give.”

The blaze, which at its peak covered more than 17,000 acres around Gatlinburg, Ten., damaged or destroyed almost 2,400 buildings and led to more than 130 injuries.
