If you’ve never been to a NASCAR race, chances are you have no idea what to expect. The one thing you can count on, however, is the variety of fans—from all walks of life—who come to the track to have a good time, get outside and experience a sport they love for a few hours’ reprieve.
So if the smell of burnt rubber becomes too much to bear, take to the grandstands to enjoy some quality people watching at its most entertaining.
Sleeveless T-shirt guy
It’s hot, summer’s coming and who wants that farmer’s tan line when you can have a tan line starting at the shoulder for greater continuity.
Pair with a red party cup and chinstrap beard for the complete ensemble.
Watching the race you’ll find children in full-on replica racing suits. Seeing these kids dressed up like Kyle Busch or Dale Earnhardt Jr. means the future of the sport is in good hands.
Plus, it’s always nice to see the youngins fully investing in the whole experience.
The gourmet tailgater chef
There’s a hotel and casino on the grounds, but why mess with that when you can bring your own RV? Standing outside the RV wielding tongs and a koozie is your gourmet griller. Brats, hot dogs, burgers, pork shoulder, beef ribs, sausage, peppers, onions, quinoa patties—this gastronomical genius will make you wish he were your best friend.
Obsessive selfie takers
They’re everywhere. You can see them posing, pursing lips, gumming up foot traffic. No doubt Miles the Monster has photo bombed a great number of selfies, hence the redness in his eye.
These unseen trolls (and that’s a term used with affection here) make the cars go ’round. Walking around the garage area, you’ll see these people hard at work tinkering with these cars and getting them ready for 400 laps or so.
Dover International Speedway will host three days of NASCAR action from May 29 to 31. Be sure to purchase your tickets at doverspeedway.com.
