Ty Dillon led the field during the first NASCAR XFINITY Series practice on Friday morning at Dover International Speedway, circling the Monster Mile in 22.780 seconds for an average speed of 158.033 MPH.
Dillon was considerably faster than the second-quickest car of Erik Jones, who was driving Kyle Busch’s No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota. Jones had a lap time of 22.955 seconds for an average speed of 156.829 MPH.
Brian Scott ran third fastest, followed by Kasey Kahne and Austin Dillon in the top five.
The practice session ended a bit early when Carl Long found the wall in turn 4 right before the scheduled finish time. He hit a piece of debris, which he said he thought was a tungsten weight, before losing control and contacting first the outside and then the inside wall.
The NASCAR XFINITY cars will be back out later this afternoon for their final practice, and will qualify Saturday morning for the 34th Annual “Buckle Up 200” presented by Click It Or Ticket NASCAR XFINITY Series race later that afternoon.
