Dover International Speedway and the World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association (WCPCA) announced today that it will host the 2015 event on Nov. 7-8 on Speedway grounds. PC-LogoThe 2014 event was postponed, and this will mark the 28th year of the event. This year’s Punkin Chunkin event is anticipated to include new and exciting attractions for fans of all ages.

Punkin Chunkin has been held each year in Delaware since 1986, and sees teams from around the world compete in the sport of hurling a pumpkin solely by mechanical means for distance. Some devices used include slingshots, catapults, air cannons and more. The non-profit WCPCA supports many local and national organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Meals On Wheels, Bless our Children, Autism Delaware and more with the proceeds from the event.

Punkin Chunkin will take place on the same grounds the Speedway uses to host the Firefly Music Festival and Big Barrel Country Music Festival. Punkin Chunkin has gained international notoriety over the years, with fans coming from all over the world to see the unique event.

“While this year’s event won’t be one where we are throwing for overall distance, we are confident that it’s going to be the best show for the crowd that we’ve ever put on,” said Ricky Nietubicz, WCPCA president. “We are also confident that it will raise a lot of money for our scholarship program and for the charities that we support on a local, regional and national level. But, most of all, we’re looking forward to seeing everyone in Delaware again.”

“We’re thrilled to play host to such a uniquely Delaware, celebrated event,” said Mike Tatoian, president and CEO of Dover International Speedway. “Punkin Chunkin’s fun-loving fan base, teamed with our infrastructure and experience with hosting large-scale events, should make for a terrific event this fall.”
