FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The short answer: The DuPont Monster Bridge is “The Most Exciting
Seat in Sports!”
The DuPont Monster Bridge is a glass-enclosed seating structure
that extends over the track at Dover International Speedway, offering
an unprecedented view of NASCAR racing action. The bridge represents
the ultimate convergence of creativity and technology in sports:
the vision of Dover Motorsports, Inc., brought to life by “The
miracles of science” from DuPont, and featuring innovative
seating solutions from American Seating.
Dover Motorsports, Inc. is constantly looking for ways to improve
its facilities, and sought to create an opportunity to allow people
to experience the thrill of NASCAR in a way that has never been
done before. Dover International Speedway, with its one-mile concrete
surface, has long been known as one of the most challenging tracks
in the country. Already the largest sports venue in the Mid-Atlantic
region with 140,000 seats, the addition of the DuPont Monster Bridge
elevates the excitement in Dover to the next level.
To the best of our knowledge, the DuPont Monster Bridge is unique
in all of sports. We’re calling it “The Most Exciting
Seat in Sports!” because it truly is a one-of-a-kind structure.
Many sports allow you the opportunity to be on the sideline close
to the action, but no other venue puts you on top of the action,
literally suspended above the racing. You can see and feel the thunderous
roar as Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Tony Stewart speed
under your feet.
Along with an unbeatable view of the racing action, the DuPont Monster
Bridge provides plush amenities throughout. Fifty-six custom-built,
theater-style seats embroidered with the “Monster Mile”
logo were manufactured by American Seating in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Each seat provides audio access to the NASCAR race coverage on television
and radio, along with access to the major drivers’ race team
communications. Flat-screen televisions are included in the climate-controlled
interior, along with wall-to-wall carpet and a full-service refreshment
bar.
The DuPont Monster Bridge is strategically located on the back straightaway
heading into turn 3 of Dover International Speedway.
The DuPont Monster Bridge is 29 feet above the center of the track.
No other seat in sports puts you directly above, and so close, to
the action.
The idea originated in November 2002, with the installation of the
first footer on Jan. 7, 2004. The construction of the DuPont Monster
Bridge was completed in time for the June 4-6, 2004 race weekend
at Dover International Speedway. From concept to final product,
the process took only a little over 1 1/2 years.
As you would expect, with only fifty-six seats available, access
is limited. The opportunity to view the race from the DuPont Monster
Bridge is highly coveted. The inaugural race weekend in June 2004
was used to introduce the unique structure to the media, dignitaries
and select partners from DuPont and American Seating. The goal moving
forward is to provide a percentage of the seats in the DuPont Monster
Bridge for promotional purposes to contest winners, giving every
NASCAR fan the opportunity to see a race from “The Most Exciting
Seat in Sports!” Seats are not for sale.

As Dover Motorsports began to research the necessary elements to
make our bridge concept at Dover International Speedway a reality,
we started with the need for high-performance safety glass. DuPont™
SentryGlas® Plus ionoplast interlayer was clearly the best solution,
and Dover Motorsports and DuPont began a dialogue about making this
structure unique, compelling and safe. As the solutions became obvious,
the discussion about the potential for sponsoring the structure
as a showcase for an entire range of DuPont building innovations
surfaced. Because of the vast array of innovative products produced
by DuPont, it has been a mutually beneficial partnership.
The foundation and frame of the DuPont Monster Bridge is constructed
of steel and concrete, and its front and rear glass walls are made
of laminated safety glass with DuPont™ SentryGlas® Plus.
The DuPont Monster Bridge also features a “catch fence”
as an additional safeguard. The steep banking of the track (24 degrees
in the turns, 9 degrees in straightaways) also tends to send cars
downward onto the apron if they get in trouble.
