Carl Edwards comes to town

NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series phenom, and current NASCAR Busch Series points leader Carl Edwards, recently visited Dover and Philadelphia in anticipation of the upcoming June 3-5, 2005 MBNA race weekend.

After two full days of testing the #99 Office Depot Ford at Dover International Speedway, Edwards attended a Tuesday night Phillies game at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelpia. A 5th-inning skit with the Phillie Phanatic included Carl and a mock pit crew. When the Phanatic got off his four-wheeler, Carl hopped on and rode away to the cheers of the 32,100 fans in attendance. The Phanavision board at the stadium entertained fans with highlights of Carl driving at the Monster Mile, and performing his trademark backflips in victory lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

A Wednesday morning media event was held at Dave & Busters in Philadelphia, and Edwards took time out to talk to the assembled media. Media outlets on hand to interview Carl included: WTXF-TV, WPVI-TV, WHYY-TV, CN8-TV, Philadelphia Daily News, Philadelphia Inquirer, The News Journal, The Mercury, The Patriot News, Daily Local News, Scranton Times-Tribune, Express-Times, Area Auto Racing News, SpeedWorld magazine, Sports Network Philadelphia, Keystone Sports Services, WRDX-FM, WWTX-AM, WILM-AM, WBCB-AM, WXCY-FM, WNJC-AM and WNCL-FM.

Edwards has competed in two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at Dover International Speedway. His first start was May 30, 2003 in the MBNA Armed Forces Family 200. He started 13th and finished 33rd. His second NASCAR Craftsman Truck race at Dover International Speedway was the MBNA America 200 on June 4, 2004. He started on the pole, and finished 14th. His qualifying speed of 152.892 m.p.h. is the current track record at the Monster Mile.

Edwards has competed in one NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway. His only start was on September 26, 2004 in the MBNA America 400. He started 15th and finished 18th.
