Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200 Practice: Briscoe, Bell have top speeds early

NASCAR Xfinity Series championship contenders Chase Briscoe and Christopher Bell posted the top two speeds in today’s first practice sessions for Saturday’s “Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200” NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race.

Briscoe, driving the No. 98 Ford, turned a lap at 152.394 mph, followed by Bell, who has won two straight NASCAR Xfinity Series races at Dover, with a lap of 151.656 mph.

In Friday’s late practice session, Cole Custer topped the charts with a lap of 151.292 mph, followed by Briscoe and Harrison Burton.

Six of the top seven speeds in the early practice were earned by playoff drivers, including Tyler Reddick, Custer, Justin Allgaier and Noah Gragson. Four drivers will be eliminated from championship contention following 200 laps at the Monster Mile. John Hunter Nemechek and Brandon Jones are 11 points behind the cutoff, Ryan Sieg is 37 behind and Justin Haley trails by 39.

Qualifying for the “Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200” NASCAR Xfinity Series race is set for Saturday at 12:05 p.m., with the green flag schedule for just after 3 p.m.
